Muri's veteran, military assistance legislation headed to governor
Serving his first session as state representative in the 28th District, Rep. Dick Muri had his first bill sent to the governor to be signed into law. The measure will help veterans and military members relocating to Washington.
House Bill 2363 would require the state Department of Social and Health Services to provide services to developmentally disabled children of military service members in the order he or she was on the waiting list in another state, rather than having to go to the bottom of the list for services after relocating to Washington.
“We have a vibrant community of military members, veterans and their families in the Twenty-eighth District and around the state,” said Muri, R-Steilacoom and retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. “As we look at the ways we can help these families transition to our state, ensuring we offer their children, especially those with special needs, the support required to make their move seamless is critical. My bill is one small step for these families to make Washington even more welcoming to our service men and women.”
Muri added that Washington state is the first state in the nation to pass this type of legislation and that this law change is a top priority of the federal Department of Defense.
House Bill 2363 is now awaiting the governor's signature.
