Rep. Dick Muri appointed to serve as assistant leader on House Education Committee
State Rep. Dick Muri, R-Steilacoom and former member of the Steilacoom Historical School District #1 Board of Directors, was recently appointed to serve as the assistant ranking member of the House Education Committee. The committee reviews and recommends policies related to the state's K-12 education system, including testing, guidelines and measures to improve educational outcomes for students.
“As a long-time advocate for a quality education for all students in the Twenty-eighth District and statewide, I am honored to take a lead role in ensuring the policies put forward by the Legislature match the needs of students, teachers and parents,” Muri said. “We're making strides toward fully funding K-12 education, but along with that comes the responsibility to improve student outcomes, support teachers and build confidence with parents.”
As part of his new role, he was also appointed to serve on the Education Accountability System Oversight Committee and the Quality Education Council.
Muri added that he would welcome discussions with local education leaders, principals, parents and administrators to get feedback and ideas on what can and should be done in the 2015 legislative session to better serve students.
“We have a lot of time before the next legislative session, leaving plenty of time to come up with solutions and find the best way to garner support for them in the Legislature,” Muri said. “I look forward to serving my communities in this capacity and hearing all the good ideas that come from constituents.”
Constituents can contact Muri at his district office in University Place through the end of the year at (253) 566-5652 or via e-mail at dick.muri@leg.wa.gov.
